I never thought I would enjoy Kirtan, or anything that had to do with chanting, singing, or music for that matter. However, during teacher training, we had daily Kirtan sessions and I loved it :) I loved the vibe that the music gave to the group. Our teacher would pluck on the guitar strings when we would be so tired and achy from the practice and sitting all day learning about yoga philosophy, teaching techniques and the like. When we’d be so sleepy and exhausted, he’d start off the session with some music…we sang all sorts of chants, mantras, and even Beatles songs. That sure kept us sane those 10 ten hour days! For our second module this October, I’m looking forward to more Kirtan sessions. Hopefully the other musicians in the group will also play along. I wish I had a bongo or those little egg shakers to play along with. Or maybe one of those tremendous keyboards. It’s not to late to learn to play an instrument anyway, right? :)
